Michelle Sank (born 1953 in Cape Town) left South Africa in 1978 and has been living in England since 1987. Her images reflect a preoccupation with the human condition and to this end can be viewed as social documentary, alongside fine art. Her work encompasses issues around social and cultural diversity. Sank has exhibited internationally, including shows in Mexico City, Chicago, London, Brussels and Amsterdam. She has been awarded many key photographic awards and prizes, and has completed several Artist Residencies/Commissions worldwide. Sank’s work has been widely publish and to date, includes four of solo publications, the latest two: The Submerged and Identities Now, were published in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
