Antoine d’Agata

The Netherlands, Amsterdam Kahmann Gallery

Antoine d’Agata (b. 1961) is a photographer who never shies away from taboo subjects; sex, addiction, prostitution, personal obsessions and darkness all feature regularly in his work. His photographs are brooding and troubling, yet at the same time beautiful and lyrical, making them a fascinating paradox. D’Agata is an active participant in his own work. According to him, a photographer who remains behind the camera, reduces the medium to mere voyeurism.
D’Agata studied at the prestigious International Center of Photography in New York. In 2004, d’Agata joined Magnum Photos. He has published several photobooks and his work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, such as at Le Bal Paris, The Hague Museum of Photography.
